Because the booklet of F. R. Palmer's temper and Modality in 1986, whilst the subject of "modality" used to be quite unusual, there was massive curiosity within the topic in addition to in grammatical typology quite often. Modality is worried with temper (subjunctive etc.) and with modal markers resembling English modal verbs (can, may possibly, needs to etc.) and is taken care of as a unmarried grammatical type present in many of the languages of the area. Palmer investigates this classification, drawing on a wealth of examples from a wide selection of languages.
